On the path of equilibrium between technology and humanity in the development of engineers

Abstract

Paper presents author’s reflections on his own growth as the man of engineering science and technology. Experiences made in his young years show that such growth is most favourable when preceded by a mature general education at high school and when associated by the observation of various ideas of humanism during the engineering studies. Such opinion looks very justified since today the engineer, in his professional practice, has to answer not only the question “how?” but – more and more – the question “why?”. The latter is strongly connected with the up-to-date problem of world’s sustainable development, containing different aspects of philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, ecology, environment, heritage, economy, society, and human relations, all in all – of the cultural landscape.
