In recent decades, India has undergone significant economic changes, one of which has been the dynamic growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. The aim of this article is to analyze the origins, sectoral distribution, and geographical allocation of FDI and its role in India's economic transformation between 2000 and 2025. Based on empirical data, the study identifies Mauritius, Singapore, and the United States as the largest sources of capital, with investments mainly concentrated in the services and information technology sectors. The analysis also reveals a strong regional concentration of FDI in a few states, particularly in the southwestern part of the country. The paper further explores the key factors attracting investment as well as the barriers limiting more balanced distribution, such as infrastructure and administrative disparities. This study contributes to understanding the role of FDI in shaping regional development trajectories within the Indian economy.
